the day of the beaching / w dniu lądowania[1]
She’s a dead ship sailing / Martwy statek żeglujący
- skeleton crew / pod załogą szkieletów
The galley is empty / Kambuz jest pusty
the stove pots are cooling / garnki na piecu stygną
with what’s left of a stew / wraz z resztkami duszonego mięsa
Her time is approaching / Jej czas nadchodzi
The captain moves over / Kapitan ustępuje
The hangman steps in / Kat wkracza
to do what he’s paid for / By dokonać tego, za co mu płacą
With the wind and the tide / Z wiatrem i przypływem
she goes proud ahead steaming / płynie dumnie całą naprzód
and he drives her hard into the shore / a on prowadzi ją twardo w brzeg
so far from the Clyde / tak daleko od Clyde

to the oily wet ground / na tłusty, wilgotny ląd
Goes bowed to the car / Wsiada zgarbiony do samochodu
that has come here to take him / który przyjechał, by go zabrać
through the graveyard and back to the town / przez cmentarz z powrotem do miasta

They pull out her cables / Wyrwali z niej[2] kable
and hack off her hatches / Odrąbali jej włazy
Too poor to be wasteful / Zbyt biedni, by szastać

They swarm on her carcass / Zaroiło się od nich na jej trupie
with torches and axes / z pochodniami i toporami
Like a whale on the bloody shoreline / Jak wieloryb na krwawym brzegu
Stripped of her pillars / Ogołocona z masztów
her stays and her stanchions / sztagów[3] i podpór
When there’s only her bones / Kiedy zostaną już tylko jej kości
on the wet, poisoned land / na mokrym, zatrutym lądzie
steel ropes will drag her / stalowymi linami pociągną ją
with winches and engines / wciągarki i maszyny
